Frequently Asked Questions - Accessing EMRetiree
Welcome to the ExxonMobil Retiree Online Community, EMRetiree, your source for news about ExxonMobil, benefits, retiree clubs, activities, volunteering and much more.
If you experience problems please send an e-mail using the Contact Us Form.
These are some of the questions new visitors often ask about EMRetiree:
Who is eligible to access the ExxonMobil Retiree Online Community (EMRetiree).
Valid users are those who received a full benefit retirement from Exxon Corporation or Mobil Corporation before the ExxonMobil merger in 2000 or who have received a full benefit retirement from Exxon Mobil Corporation since the merger. Surviving spouses of eligible retirees are also eligible for membership. Membership is available to eligible U.S. retirees and surviving spouses only.
Individuals eligible for a Termination Annuity, but not otherwise eligible for retiree benefits (e.g., medical coverage), are not eligible for registration on the ExxonMobil Retiree Online Community.
Why is registration required? Why isn't this site open to people who have worked for Exxon, Mobil, or ExxonMobil but don't have full retiree status, especially those receiving a Termination Annuity?
While much of the news and information provided on EMRetiree is "public" and wouldn't normally be restricted, this site also includes proprietary benefits information that is only appropriate for eligible retirees. In addition, the Online Community Directory, one of the most popular features of EMRetiree, includes private or personal information that members have chosen only to share with fellow eligible retirees. For other news and information about ExxonMobil you can visit www.exxonmobil.com.
What is all the information I am asked to include during registration used for? Do I have to provide all of it?
In the next step of the registration process you are given an opportunity to enter a lot of information about yourself. Some of that information, marked with an asterisk (*), is required for site operation and verification of membership. Other information is not required, but is requested, to better serve your needs and interests (see next question).
ExxonMobil Retiree Affairs does not distribute any of your information for any purpose. When you complete the form you may authorize limited release in this site's private member directory. If you have questions about how your information will be used see the Privacy Statement for more information.
The EMRetiree Online Community Directory is one of the most popular benefits of this internet site. All Exxon, Mobil, and ExxonMobil retirees are listed in this large database, showing at least their current residence city and the year they retired. In addition, all retires who register on EMRetiree and who complete appropriate information in the registration form provide a lot more information about themselves to share with their former friends and other fellow retirees. This information is what makes EMRetiee a friendly and useful "community." Remember, however, that only eligible ExxonMobil retirees can log on to EMRetiree, so your information is protected from all others outside the ExxonMobil Retiree Family!
What are the Personal Profile Page options and how do I use them?
Profile Page Tabs - All of your various member features and personal content are housed in the Profile Page tab system. The top row of tabs are the system tabs that hold the content that is viewable by other members of the community - your Friends List, Photos, etc.
The exception to this is the My Activity tab which holds tabs only accessible by you and authorized administrators and holds tabs containing things such as your Instant Notes center.
View Mode / Edit Mode - When viewing your own Profile Page, the default view is to have all of the content editing options enabled. To view your Profile Page as it will appear to other members, click on Edit Mode (click to view). To go back to the edit view for managing your Profile Page content, click on View Mode (click to edit).
Add Content - There are a wide variety of options for the types of content you can add to your Profile Page. Click on the Add Content links in each of the content cell areas to launch the content windows for adding Member Fields for displaying information about yourself to other members.
Note: You can add multiple pieces of content to the same content cell on your Profile Page tabs.
Drag and Drop - Once you have added your content to the Profile Page tab, you can then drag and drop the content to another position on the tab. Hover your cursor over the header of the particular content piece that you want to move until it turns into a black X with four arrow heads, then click and drag that piece of content to another cell or above or below another piece of content in the same cell
Custom Tabs - To provide yourself more canvasses on which to add content and tell people about yourself and the things you like, click on Add Tab to additional custom tabs to your Profile Page. then use the Add Content tabs to build out the information and content displayed on these custom tabs.
Audience - Use the Audience option for your custom tabs to set who will be able to view the tab - all regular authenticated members, just members of your Friends List, or just as a private tab viewable only by yourself and authorized administrators.
Editing and Deleting Content - Edit and Delete - use the Pencil edit icon to modify any of the Content you have added, or use the red X to remove the content
System Content - You will probably see some content that you are not able to edit, or remove, or perhaps even move around on the tab, such as your home address. This is System Content that has been added by site administrators as required content on Profile Pages, and cannot be modified or removed by members.
Add Tab - Add a custom tab for displaying your Member Fields, Feeds and.or Widgets content. These custom tabs are created, unless otherwise set by site administrators, as blank slates for you to add the content of your choice through the system tools.
Rename Tab - Use this option to rename any of your custom tabs.
Delete Tab - Use this option to delete any of your custom tabs.
Report as Objectionable - Any authenticated viewing member can report content on your Profile Page as objectionable. Clicking on this option and submitting something as objectionable sends an immediate email to site administrators with a link back to the administrative tool to review the content. No judgments, decisions or suspensions of content are made until the site administrators themselves have a chance to make their review.

I want my retiree friends to be able to send me an e-mail, but I don't want to show my e-mail address in the directory. Is that possible?
It is very important that you keep your e-mail address current on EMRetiree, but some retirees prefer not to make that e-mail address public in their personal profile even though only verified ExxonMobil retirees have access to that directory (to search for yourself or another retiree use the left navigation bar to to to Retiree Network > Online Community Directory).
When you are registered on EMRetiree and someone searches for you they will see an envelope icon next to your name.
In addition, when they view your profile they will also see a link for "Send Member Email"
In either case the link will open an e-mail form allowing them to send you an e-mail without knowing your e-mail address. That e-mail will be sent by the EMRetiree Online Community and you can choose to open and reply or just ignore the message to maintain your privacy.
To learn how to show or hide your e-mail address, see "How Do I Add and Edit Fields in My Profile," above.
