Frequently Asked Questions - Accessing EMRetiree

Welcome to the ExxonMobil Retiree Online Community, EMRetiree, your source for news about ExxonMobil, benefits, retiree clubs, activities, volunteering and much more. These are some of the questions new visitors often ask about EMRetiree:

Who is eligible to access the ExxonMobil Retiree Online Community (EMRetiree).

Why is registration required? Why isn't this site open to people who have worked for Exxon, Mobil, or ExxonMobil but don't have full retiree status, especially those receiving a Termination Annuity?

When I try to register on EMRetiree it says I have to have an e-mail address. I don't own a computer and am using someone else's computer (library, senior citizen center, grandchild, etc.) and I don't haven an e-mail address. Can I still register?

I am an eligible ExxonMobil retiree, but everytime I try to use EMRetiree I get a screen asking me to login using a Username and Password. How do I know what they are?

What is all the information I am asked to include during registration used for? Do I have to provide all of it?

How do I use the Login Screen?

What is My Online Profile Display Preference?

I want my retiree friends to be able to send me an e-mail, but I don't want to show my e-mail address in the directory. Is that possible?

What is an Adobe Acrobat document, and how do I open and read it?

How do I post my photo on my Online Profile in the EMRetiree Online Community Directory?

Who is eligible to access the ExxonMobil Retiree Online Community (EMRetiree).

Valid users are those who received a full benefit retirement from Exxon Corporation or Mobil Corporation before the ExxonMobil merger in 2000 or who have received a full benefit retirement from Exxon Mobil Corporation since the merger. Surviving spouses of eligible retirees are also eligible for membership. Membership is available to eligible U.S. retirees and surviving spouses only.

Individuals eligible for a Termination Annuity, but not otherwise eligible for retiree benefits (e.g., medical coverage), are not eligible for registration on the ExxonMobil Retiree Online Community.

Why is registration required? Why isn't this site open to people who have worked for Exxon, Mobil, or ExxonMobil but don't have full retiree status, especially those receiving a Termination Annuity?

While much of the news and information provided on EMRetiree is "public" and wouldn't normally be restricted, this site also includes proprietary benefits information that is only appropriate for eligible retirees. In addition, the Online Community Directory, one of the most popular features of EMRetiree, includes private or personal information that members have chosen only to share with fellow eligible retirees. For other news and information about ExxonMobil you can visit www.exxonmobil.com.

When I try to register on EMRetiree it says I have to have an e-mail address. I don't own a computer and am using someone else's computer (library, senior citizen center, grandchild, etc.) and I don't haven an e-mail address. Can I still register?

If you do not currently have an email address, please contact 1-800-968-6004 and ask for ExxonMobil Retiree Online Community technical support to complete the registration process.

If you would like to set up your own free e-mail account there are two good options:

I am an eligible ExxonMobil retiree, but everytime I try to use EMRetiree I get a screen asking me to login using a Username and Password. How do I know what they are?

If you have never visited EMRetiree before, you must request access the first time. After that you will be able to to choose whether to use your Username and Password each time you visit or have the site remember you each time you visit. Learn more about the Login Options Screen.

To set up your Username and Password, click on "First Time User" in the top navigation bar of the page. You will initially be asked to enter your last name and the last four digits of your Social Security Number. This information will be used to validate you with a database of eligible retirees.

When you click "Submit" you will be asked to fill out a form entitled "Step 1: Information About Me."

The first section allows you to choose your own personal Username and Password. You will need to remember them and use them every time you visit EMRetiree. It is best if you choose unique terms, different than you use on other internet sites.

The next section askes for your primary e-mail address. It is important that you use an e-mail address you check regularly and will keep for a while. If you later change e-mail services it is very important you return to EMRetiree and update this e-mail address. It is how you will identify yourself if you ever forget your Username or Password.

What is all the information I am asked to include during registration used for? Do I have to provide all of it?

In the next step of the registration process you are given an opportunity to enter a lot of information about yourself. Some of that information, marked with an asterisk (*), is required for site operation and verification of membership. Other information is not required, but is requested, to better serve your needs and interests (see next question).

ExxonMobil Retiree Affairs does not distribute any of your information for any purpose. When you complete the form you may authorize limited release in this site's private member directory. If you have questions about how your information will be used see the Privacy Statement for more information.

The EMRetiree Online Community Directory is one of the most popular benefits of this internet site. All Exxon, Mobil, and ExxonMobil retirees are listed in this large database, showing at least their current residence city and the year they retired. In addition, all retires who register on EMRetiree and who complete appropriate information in the registration form provide a lot more information about themselves to share with their former friends and other fellow retirees. This information is what makes EMRetiee a friendly and useful "community." Remember, however, that only eligible ExxonMobil retirees can log on to EMRetiree, so your information is protected from all others outside the ExxonMobil Retiree Family!

The Login Options Screen

Once you have registered on EMRetiree you will see the Logon Options screen when you first visit the site:

Login Screen

After entering your Username and Password you have three choices. If you leave the default choice, "Every time I visit this site" you will continue to be asked to reenter your Username and Password every time you come back. That's a good idea if you are using someone else's computer or you want extra security.

If you choose the second option, "Once A Day," you won't have to login again that day. Better on those days you plan to visit us several times.

Best, if you choose the last option, "Never Again," EMRetiree will remember who you are every time you visit from this same computer - saving you the time and effort of remembering your Username and Password.

Of course, if you ever change your mind you can use the "log out" button at the top left of most pages. Then you can Login again and make the same or different Login Options choice.

Logout

Remember, your internet browser must be set to accept "cookies" to use the Login Options. Most browsers are set correctly by default.

What is My Online Profile Display Preference?

ExxonMobil uses the information you enter on the registration form to better serve you as a retiree. ExxonMobil values your security and privacy. As a result, we provide two options for your directory profile:

Option 1 (preferred): You may hide specific information about yourself by checking the "Hide" box to the left of each of the individual information fields on the form if you don't want it to show this specific piece of information on your directory profile. This way the fields you complete and don't hide will be shown to other retirees interested in contacting you or learning more about your retirement activitiesl.

Option 2: If you wish to be hidden completely from the site, please check the hide box to the left of this message:

I do not want friends and colleagues to be able to view any information about me.

Remember, if you choose this box you will not be listed in the directory at all and your friends will not be able to find you in the directory. However, if you only hide specific pieces of information you don't want to share (Option 1) your friends and fellow retirees will still be able to find you in the directory.

I want my retiree friends to be able to send me an e-mail, but I don't want to show my e-mail address in the directory. Is that possible?

Yes, that's one of the special features of EMRetiree. If you check the "Hide" box next to your e-mail address in your Online Profile your e-mail address will not be shown in your listing on the EMRetiree Online Community Directory. However, when other retirees look up your information they may see several icons next to your name, like the ones shown here:

Legend
If they click the little envelope next to the text "Email Address Available" they will be taken to a form that will allow them to send a short note to you - without knowing your e-mail address. You will get a copy of that note directly from EMRetiree and will able to decide whether you want to reply or note.

What is an Adobe Acrobat document, and how do I open and read it?

Forms and documents available on EMRetiree are often provided as Acrobat documents (.pdf). Your computer must be equipped with Adobe Acrobat Reader to view and print these PDF files. If you do not have the Adobe Acrobat Reader installed on your computer, click the logo below for your free copy and follow the easy installation instructions. You can also learn more about the Adobe Acrobat Reader at:
http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readermain.html.

Acrobat Reader

Note: Some Acrobat files may be large and may take some time to download. You may wish to save them directly to your computer’s hard drive for quick access any time.

To do that, right click on the link. If Netscape is your browser, click the "Save Link As…" option. Internet Explorer users choose "Save Target As…" from the menu. Save the file where you want it. Once downloaded, click on the file name in your computer to open.

You may print any form or other material directly out of the Acrobat Reader program. A limited number of the Adobe Acrobat forms available from EMRetiree allow you to type in the form before printing it.
